About Madore

Origin of the name Madore

Madaure's legacy

M'daourouch (Arabic: مداوروش, Berber: ⵎⴷⴰⵡⵔⵓⵛ), also known as Madauros, is a municipality in the Souk Ahras Province, located 50 km south of Souk Ahras. It has approximately 64,750 inhabitants and takes its name from the ancient Romano-Numidian city of Madauros , whose remains still exist. During the colonial period, it was known as Montesquieu.

Madaure is a place steeped in history and culture, linked to several illustrious figures. The philosopher and writer Apuleius (Lucius Apuleius) was born there, while Saint Augustine , one of the greatest theologians of antiquity, completed part of his studies there. This ancient land, rich in knowledge, art, and wisdom, forms the very root of the Madore brand.

The wordplay behind “Madore”

The name Madore was born from a subtle play on words around Madaure . By slightly transforming it, we wanted to highlight the word “or” , a symbol of nobility, rarity and refinement.
Thus, Madore signifies both the homage to the city of Madaura and the gold of flavors : precious and refined delicacies, designed as true treasures to share.
